Abstract

Acharya[i] Maulana Shams Naved Usmani’s was an important thinker (mufakkir) and researcher of his times. He had extensive knowledge regarding Hindusim. He was a passionate advocate of Hindu-Muslim inter-faith dialogue, spawning a new trend in India Muslim literary and activist circles. Maulana chartered a new course in Islamic literature in India, seeking to combine a commitment to inter-faith dialogue with what seems to have been his principal mission, that of Da’wah, or inviting others to Islam.

Muslim understanding for the first time has highlighted an aspect regarding Hinduism where hindu sacred books are read in contrast with quran and hadith and scattered facts about Islam are collected and presented to manifest the true picture of Islam. Though in the past too, there existed to some extent the proof in Hindu sacred texts regarding the truth of Islam, this trend increased after Maulana’s work in this context. He explained the meaning and interpretation of many important Hindu views in the light if Islam. For this purpose, he also used translated texts, and sayings of sufis besides Quran and hadith. So, this study is an attempt to present Usmani’s views on understanding Hinduism and critically analyze his views in this regard.

Abstract

The around 289 verses of Holy Quran, which are based on Nafs (self, ego, soul), show the importance of the subject mainly associated with the thoughts and actions of mankind. Every book has a topic and the Holy Quran's topic is hinged upon mankind. In the Holy Quran the Almighty Allah is directly addressing mankind. The God has created man so that the man can worship Him and discover Him. Although humanity is united in possessing the qualities of Nafs, people are individually responsible for exercising the agencies of their 'free will' that it provides them. The Quran affords much importance to the 'nafs' of an individual, highlighting the agency of 'free will' and intelligence, without which neither responsibility nor accountability can exist. The Quran does not attribute to the Nafs any inherent properties of 'good' or 'evil', but instead conveys the idea that it is something which has to be nurtured and self-regulated, so that it can progress into becoming 'good' (or conversely, 'evil') through its thoughts and actions. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said! 'The one who can discovers his Nafs is one who finds out about God'.

Abstract

Spending in the way of Allah (Infaq fi Sabilillah) is an important institution of Islam. Allah the Almighty stressed on such kind of spending in many places of the Holy Quran. Moreover, Prophet Muhammad [P.B.U.H] companions always practiced the teaching about such spending through their sayings and actions. In order to investigate about such sort of spending in the lives of richest Companions, an archival research methodology is used, which is a widely used research approach in Islamic studies and Islamic theology. The study reviewed the available prominent and established literature, to investigate the consciousness of richest Prophet Muhammad’s Companions [RA] toward Infaq fi Sabilillah. The study concluded that the lives of the Companions are full of scarifications, and both mandatory and voluntary spending in the name of Allah. The total sum of such spending by the top four richest Companions is far greater than the total wealth of present wealthy people globally. After all such huge spending, their wealth increased day after day and never got decreased. This is the Divine law of spending which says that spending in the way of Allah leads to increase in Wealth.
