Abstract

The paper argues that official texts and correspondence can be drafted in Urdu as our own language. As such, translation glitches do no matter at all.It is however, observed that Urdu could not be enforced as our official language in the face of socio-political splits and concerns, though usage of Urdu language is very common in our offices and courts of law informally .Urdu linguists and lexicographers have contributed tremendously in coining all types of Urdu terms and translating expressions over two centuries but governments lack political will to adopt Urdu as official languag There is a visible superiority of Urdu over other Pakistani languages as a modern language, which has infused an unpleasant cultural superamacy in Urdu speaking community. The bias thus created and exaggerated has been used by the ruling elite groups to perpetuate their hegemony over common man through English language as a colonial legacy. Linguistic and technical issues in translating official texts into Urdu and solutions thereof, have also, been discussed in this paper alongside administrative and financial hurdles.
